Prof. Gertjan Medema, Chief Science Officer at KWR Watercycle Research Institute, has been named IWA Fellow by the International Water Association (IWA). His fellowship was officially confirmed on Monday, 17 September, in Busan (South Korea), where a large part of water world has gathered for the biennial IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition.

The IWA Fellows Program seeks to recognize extraordinary individuals within the community of water professionals and to enlist their commitment and skills in advancing the knowledge and practice of water management through IWA. Medema is a leading researcher in risk assessment of waterborne pathogens and is scientific coordinator of the joint water research programme of the Netherlands water supply. He has long been an active member of IWA, sitting on boards, organising conferences and editing scientific journals. Recently, Medema was also appointed Chair of the IWA Health-Related Water Microbiology Specialist Group.

This fellowship means that Medema, for the forthcoming period, will be even more active as IWA ambassador in helping water professionals create innovative, pragmatic and sustainable solutions to challenging global needs.
